Russia denies selling S-300 air defence systems to Azerbaijan
    Greek Herald
    Thursday 29th July, 2010
    (IANS)

Russia Thursday denied reports that it agreed to deliver S-300 air defence systems to Azerbaijan.

'There is no contract between Russia and Azerbaijan on the delivery of S-300 air defence systems to this country,' a spokesman for state arms exporter Rosoboronexport said.

Russian business daily Vedomosti said earlier Thursday that Rosoboronexport signed an agreement with the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry on the delivery of two S-300PMU-2 Favorit (SA-20b Gargoyle b) battalions last year.

Russia denies selling S-300 air defence systems to Azerbaijan

There seems to be a secret agreement from European to deny Muslim majority countries defensive weapon. Something fishy is brewing.

Oh? How about the S-300 system that Russia sold to Iran? Me thinks your thinking process is a bit faulty.

    Wrong Ponty!

Pontotac, your brain has been broken by the storm that shares your name, and commits havoc in Florida every year. Russia has never sold Iran any S300 systems.Otherwise,Iran wouldn’t have been pressuring Russia till now to sell those weapons to it.

You are wrong and right. Russia DID sell the S-300 system to Iran, but I checked on the status after your post. Rusia froze the sale on June 10 of this year. The contract has not been cancelled yet. So, you are not quite correct, Khalid. From a Russian News site, The Voice Of Russia. The contract on the delivery of Russian S-300 air defense systems to Iran has not yet been cancelled, according to head of Rostechnologies, Sergei Chemezov, who said that “the final decision on signing or dropping the contract must be the president’s decision”. Moscow and Tehran signed the agreement back in 2005, without declaring any terms. A month ago, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution imposing new sanctions against Iran and expanding the embargo on weapon supplies to the country, in particular Russian S-300 missiles. Considerably more reliable than its American Patriot counterpart, the S-300 system is capable of tracking six targets simultaneously within a 120-kilometer range and guiding two rockets to each target. Pontotoc is usually translated “cattail prairie” or “land of hanging grapes." I use the meaning of Cattail Prairie. Note that there are no As in Pontotoc.
